LICENSE TO CARRY FIREARMS/CCW DEFENSIVE HANDGUN:
Course Time eight-ten (8-10) hours: Tuition $250.00
Wigginton's Words! My second worst fear is that you are forced to defend your actions in court.
My first worst fear is that you didnt live long enough to enter the courtroom.
Prerequisite: At a minimum, students must have successfully completed an NRA First Steps Pistol
Orientation course. Exemptions will be considered for persons possessing Pennsylvania Act 235 Certified
Security Officer Lethal Force certification or equivalent, active, reserve, retired, former military
personnel with DD214 pistol qualification. Law enforcement, correctional, parole, probation officers,
IDPA and IPSC competitors are prerequisite exempt.
This course is recommended for those who possess a License To Carry Firearms/CCW or who are considering
obtaining a license/CCW. This course teaches the judicious use of deadly force based on the premise that
battle wins followed by court losses are no-wins.
The best defense is common sense. Knowing when and more importantly when not to shoot and what to do
after you shoot are explored in depth. Threat recognition; potential versus actual, degree and escalation
of including imminent deadly peril is addressed based upon the color codes of awareness. Fatal
force response to lethal threat is covered, as are potential criminal and civil liabilities.
Students are schooled in Post Shooting Aftermath techniques, how to summon and respond to law enforcement
personnel, what to say, what not to say, when to remain silent and when to speak. Students are advised
on where and how to obtain pertinent legal information indigenous to varying geographical locations and
jurisdictions respective to applying for a License/CCW, the differences between a License To Carry Firearms
and a CCW and laws governing the lawful carry of firearms and concealed weapons. This segment further addresses
obtaining legal representation in the wake of a defensive shooting. Defensive handgun, ammunition and
carry accessories selection are discussed. The strengths and weaknesses of various handgun conditions and
carry modes, acquisition, presentation, on person and vehicular, firing and return are addressed.
Defensive shooting skills, single and multiple threat engagement sequences are introduced. Sighted fire and
point shooting, when and how to use and when and how to employ in combination are explored.
The use of cover and concealment, accompanying parties protection, firearm response to firearm, truncheon
and edged weapon attack and weapon retention round out this vital survival program.
|
|
DSI certification is awarded upon successful course completion.
